SO•MA

A weekend of full-body transformation and deep creative healing with embodiment guide Kathi Hendrick, team taught by film director Misha Calvert. This utterly unique somatic therapy practice pulls from ancient traditions of Eastern movement and dance healing while also working with concepts in Western psychology and emotional release. The goal: full body-mind catharsis that allows participants to access deeper parts of themselves and rediscover their divine connection to acting.

This transformative practice leads to tangible reverberations in your creative life. Examples from past students include: leaving a misaligned day job and starting a new creatively-supportive job that pays better; successfully fundraising a feature film; starting to make art again for its own sake; getting cast in a dream role due to increased access to emotion and expression. This work is wild, profound, and powerful.

Space is limited. The experience is in person.

October 26th and 27th, 12pm-5pm - $350

This somatic practice is ideal for anyone wanting to feel extraordinary presence in their own body; move from smaller roles into larger ones, build confidence and screen presence in an undeniable way; get to know the enchanting, uncharted parts of self that create unforgettable performances; and build powerful, lifelong creative community.

The two-day New York City somatic intensive includes meditation, group movement, individual witnessed movement, breathwork, and emotional release, among other modalities. Students will be received in a deeply safe space as they explore and express these new, hidden aspects of self.

Filmmaker Misha Calvert will oversee the workshop, helping you to apply the ancient wisdom of the SO•MA practice tangibly to the craft of acting and the industry itself. You will receive practical guidance in how to take what you learn in class, and feed it into your day-to-day life as an artist, including auditions, callbacks, and being on set.

This is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime actor training retreat that is able to be constructed due to an alignment in schedules for the facilitators.

About Kathi Hendrick

“I spent the early part of my life devoted to deep training within the realms of classical ballet and fine arts. Now, I support an international community of individuals and organizations in healing and transformation work anchored in ancient tradition and modern practice. Somatic movement, mindfulness, meditation, and creative practice are central pillars of this work.

I have a deep respect for nature and passion for participating in the design of a more sustainable, integrated world where we align ourselves to the natural order of things and remember what's truly necessary to live consciously with contentment.

My art practice is multi-faceted, with a more recent focus on exploring the mythic body of self and world through poetry and dance including a full-length poetry book titled, PORTALS.”
